Lynton travelled to Doha in February this year to run a laser cleaning workshop at the stunning Museum of Islamic Art, Qatar Museums. Fourteen conservators had the opportunity to work with Lynton’s Compact Phoenix laser cleaning system on a range of different material types including stone, metal and terracotta. The workshop included both theoretical and practical sessions where conservators learned about laser cleaning with NdYAG and ErYAG lasers. Laser cleaning trials carried out with the NdYAG laser handpiece on a 10th-12th century marble capital were so successful that stone conservators at the museum decided to use the Compact Phoenix system to clean the whole object.
